Bukchon, a typical traditional residential area in Seoul, is composed of urban tissues that are differentiated in form. Through comparison and observation of the cadastral map of 1912, the aerial photograph of 1962, and the cadastral map of 1967. The paper defines four types of urban tissue: the first and second type were reconfigurations of the morphological patterns of Bukchon in 1912, while the third and forth type were formed by the development of slopes during the 1930s. Through the interaction of diverse topographical forms and different modes of urban development, the typomorphological identities of the four types of urban tissue in Bukchon were defined.
